Machane Yehuda—the Jerusalem Shuk!

By Dana Herrnstadt, Bus 10 Participant

Not only did I eat the best falafel I have ever tasted in my life, but I drank coffee from Aroma, which is basically Israeli Starbucks, but so much better. Like, so much better. Like, imagine Starbucks, and then imagine it’s so much better than it is — that’s Aroma.

The shuk is so vibrant. It’s teeming with people; there are vendors bargaining with locals over a piece of baklava or a ring or a purse, and teen groups just like ours, all sporting tevas, full water bottles, and hats. The market is lively and beautiful, and I’m glad to call it a place where I not only ate lunch, but ate an excellent lunch.
