Lech L’cha – To the Land that I Will Show You
Like Avram, I left my country, my homeland, and my parents’ house to go to a land unknown to me, the land of Israel. It was a place I had learned so much about but knew so little. Through my 16-year-old eyes, this trip represented an unprecedented level of independence from my parents, a space to meet other Jewish teenagers, and an avenue through which to see a part of the world I had learned so much about.
Get to Know Rome Eliahou, Summer 2018 Staff!
On NFTY in Israel, you will meet a lot of cool, new people, including your amazing staff! Rome Eliahou has just finished his Army Service and is looking forward to showing American teens around his homeland.
The Shoah: My Filter for Understanding What It Means to Be a Jew
Yom HaShoah (which begins at sundown this Wednesday, April 11, and ends at sundown on Monday, April 12) cannot be the only day that we as Jews place Holocaust remembrance into the foreground of Jewish identification.
The Trip Before the Trip – Preparing Our Educators for Europe
This week, I’ll be heading to Europe with eight engaging, creative NFTY in Israel educators to develop our summer experience in Prague and Poland. We will visit all the sites that our teens visit and explore how to make the story of European Jewry come alive and remain relevant today.
7 Decades of Innovation in Israel: The Pioneer Years
Water is essential to human life and Israel is more than 60% desert. During the years the State of Israel was being established, pioneers faced the challenge of creating a self-sufficient society in an environment without easy access to food or water.
Traveling with a Group of Strangers? No Problem!
Every year, teens from all over the U.S. arrive at the airport for NFTY in Israel not knowing a single person.
7 Israeli Dishes You Can Cook this Weekend
If there is one essential Israeli food, it’s hummus. Many Mediterranean cultures lay claim to this humble, yet delightful, spread – but it’s the Israeli version that perfectly balances creamy chickpeas, earthy sesame seeds, bright lemon, and zesty garlic. In Israel, hummus and pita eaten warm is a meal, not just a snack.
How We Build Extraordinary Staff Teams, Year After Year
Every year NFTY in Israel repeats the process of recruiting summer staff to lead our teens through their incredible summer experience.
Women Facing West: Standing up to Gender Discrimination at the Western Wall
I had the opportunity to visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem on my first trip to Israel through the Reform Movement’s Sci-Tech Israel program. Jerusalem was one of the most anticipated stops on our tour of numerous factories and tech-startups located throughout the nation.
Use the Power of Our Jewish Story
In this week’s Torah portion, Beshalach (Exodus 13:17-17:16), we read of the Israelites’ turbulent final moments in slavery, and the beginning of their journey across the desert. Just as they’ve been granted permission to depart from Egypt, Pharaoh has a change of heart and chases them to the edge of the sea.
Financial
Assistance
NFTY in Israel believes the opportunity to travel to Israel is one that cannot be missed. Many organizations support our mission of sending teens to Israel for a fun, educational and meaningful journey. To help offset the cost of a summer on NFTY in Israel, local communities, such as synagogues and federations, provide scholarship and financial aid to families.
