Shalom from London!
After months of excitement, our journey is officially underway, and what an amazing first couple of days it has been! We touched down bright and early Monday morning and headed straight for a delicious breakfast at the airport Hilton. After fueling up, we hopped on the bus to Hyde Park, where we participated in a bunch of different activities. From walking along the scenic paths to playing fun bonding games in groups, we shared new things about ourselves and learned a lot about each other.
After some free time and a Pizur lunch* nearby, we made our way to the hotel for a much-needed rest. In the evening, we circled up as a group to reflect, set intentions for our journey, and go over some key safety and logistical info. We finished the day with a cozy Italian dinner nearby and then headed to bed early- the jet lag was real.
Wednesday was all about London landmarks. After a yummy breakfast buffet, we made our way to the iconic Tower of London, where we learned about some royal intrigue. Then we boarded a scenic Thames River cruise to bring us to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and the heart of the city. We met up with local guides who took us through the church where the nation’s most important events take place! Another highlight was seeing the graves of Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and even Geoffrey Chaucer! We had some time to explore Leicester Square, where we got to watch some Women’s futbol and eat some ice cream! We returned to the hotel for free time, where campers relaxed, played card games, and enjoyed being together.
On Thursday, we went to the Harry Potter Set at Warner Bros. Studios, a dream come true for our wizarding world fans. It was so fun to engage with the immersive experiences and watch how they do their special effects. We loved it!
Throughout it all, the energy has been incredible. I really have loved getting to know our campers so far. Our group of 57 bubbly teens, 8 dedicated staff, 2 passionate guides, and 3 attentive security guards already feels like a strong community of love and laughter. Whether they’re cheering each other on, singing on the bus, or helping someone find a lost water bottle (we’ve already had a few), the kindness and curiosity of our campers is something special.
Speaking from experience, there is something special about old friends together in new places. Navigating foreign environments, trying different foods, and learning about new cultures can bring people closer in a unique way. This trip creates a really beautiful space for them to connect and grow in profound ways, and I can’t wait to continue watching your teens form these kinds of bonds with each other. They’ll carry these memories with them long after the trip ends.
Sending hugs from across the pond!
