Week 2 with Sci Tech!

Another week in Israel in the books! We have been enjoying traveling in Israel and seeing more cities and sites. We stopped in Jerusalem, where we did a tour of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. We also visited Hebrew Union College, and explored Ben Yehuda market.

After we left Jerusalem, we went back down to the Negev desert and did an archeological dig. We found lots of pottery shards, charcoal, and one camper even found an oil lamp! We then went to a Bedouin camp where we rode camels, learned about the Bedouin community, enjoyed a bonfire, and went stargazing. The following day we climbed Mt. Masada, and got to see the beautiful sunrise just in time! We ended our trip in the Negev with a well deserved swim (or float) in the Dead Sea.

Our next stop was Tel Aviv. We got there just in time for Shabbat. A reform community in Tel Aviv invited us to join them for Kabbalat Shabbat. We sang and danced with each other and some of the community members! The next day we spent time relaxing and enjoying the beach during the day, and did a walking tour of Tel Aviv in the evening. We ended the night with Havdalah on the beach.

It was sad to leave Tel Aviv, but our fun adventures continued in the north. Our first stop in the north was in Haifa where we visited Technion (a Tech university) and had lunch with some members of the Druze community in Israel. The next day we visited Tzfat where we learned about Kabbalah, and saw some beautiful art. We even got to meet an artist named Avraham Levental, who is a prominent artist in the community.

Our next stop will be on a Kibbutz called “Tzuba.” Keep checking back for more photos, videos, and blog posts!
