Yesterday was the day!! Sci-Tech Israel Day 1! The staff waited patiently at the arrivals at Ben Gurion airport to welcome the 42 participants. We were so happy and excited to see their very tired faces as they came through the gate. The staff counted all the teens to make sure we had everybody before we departed. Once we had our number we made our way to the bus.
With 42 teens plus staff, fitting luggage was a challenge but we managed. After the teens loaded their luggage, there were sandwiches, apples, chips, water, and pastries waiting for them to bring on to the bus. Teens were talking amongst one another, playing games, getting to know each other, and some resting from the long journey as we waited patiently for the bus to leave the airport. Then the bus started moving and we started heading to the Golan Heights! The bus ride was about three hours with a stop half way through for a bathroom break. On the bus ride, I asked some of the teens what they were most excited about. Answers varied from “just being here” and “learning about science and technology in Israel” to “visiting the Kotel again” and “Being in Tzfat”. I’m so excited for them to see all the places they’re excited about and all the things they’re excited to learn about. A few hours later, we reached Kibbutz Gadot and had an orientation to go over important information. Finally, everyone went off to their rooms for some well deserved sleep. Can’t wait for more adventures to come!
