This is Leah K from Miriam and Talia S from Gilboa, here to tell you all about our first week on MBI!
After a very long flight, we arrived at Ben Gurion Airport, where we met our international kvutza and the friends who will make this summer so memorable.
We spent much of our first week exploring the Negev, experiencing the incredible diversity of the desert and the communities that call it home. We learned about Bedouin culture, stayed in a traditional Bedouin tent, rode camels, and enjoyed a delicious traditional meal. We also woke up before sunrise to hike Masada, where we celebrated the b’nei mitzvah of Lily, Sasha, and Jay.
Our adventures continued with a day trip to Eilat, where we snorkeled at Almog Beach, went tubing, and enjoyed lunch at the Ice Mall.
Throughout the week, we also took time to reflect and remember. We visited the Nova Music Festival Memorial and the Car Cemetery, honoring those who lost their lives on October 7. We had the privilege of hearing from inspiring speakers who shared their personal stories, helping us better understand the resilience of the people of Israel.
As the week came to a close, we floated in the Dead Sea before making our way to Jerusalem. We spent the day exploring the Old City, connecting with our history, and preparing for Shabbat. We welcomed Shabbat together with singing, dancing, delicious food, and meaningful time as a kvutza, the perfect way to end an unforgettable first week.
